The road has been named Route 47 and is 4.5 kilometers long

Lahore: Pakistan’s first electricity-generating road has been completed in Lahore, the capital of Punjab province.
According to reports, officials stated that they have finished the construction of the country’s most advanced smart road, located in the heart of the city.
The road has been named Route 47 and is 4.5 kilometers long. It connects several major roads of the city, including Kalma Chowk, Ferozepur Road, Gulberg Main Boulevard, Walton Road, and the Lahore Ring Road.
The project cost is estimated at Rs9 billion (approximately 32 million USD) and was carried out by the Punjab Central Business District Development Authority (CBD Punjab).
CBD Punjab CEO Imran Amin stated that the road is the main boulevard of the country’s most modern commercial district. It meets international standards and includes several smart features.
The road includes an almost 1-kilometer-long flyover, with separate lanes for pedestrians and cyclists.
Officials added that the road has been designed to prevent water accumulation during rainfall.
Solar panels are being installed along the footpaths of Route 47. These will provide shade and generate up to one megawatt of electricity.
Imran Amin said, “I believe this is Pakistan’s first smart road that will also generate energy.”
