Islamabad: The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) has termed the government’s PECA Act and the Punjab government’s Defamation Act as stifling freedom of the press.
PFUJ Acting President Khalid Khokhar and Secretary General Arshad Ansari said in a joint statement that press freedom is rapidly disappearing in the country.
They stated that the federal government’s PECA Act and the Punjab government’s Defamation Act are tantamount to stifling freedom of the press. They will continue the struggle against black laws like the PECA Act and defamation.
They also demanded that the federal and Punjab governments respect press freedom.
