EU Foreign Affairs Chief urged parties to move forward with talks to improve situation

New York: The European Union has urged Pakistan and India to exercise restraint.
EU Foreign Affairs Chief Kaja Klass contacted the foreign ministers of Pakistan and India and urged them to exercise restraint.
She said that she has urged the parties to move forward with talks to improve the situation, as escalating tensions are not in anyone’s interest.
Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, in a conversation with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Klaas, rejected India’s baseless allegations and propaganda. He expressed concern over India’s decision to block the Indus Waters Treaty.
The Foreign Minister said that blocking the treaty is a clear violation of international law. The leaders reiterated Pakistan’s proposal for an independent and transparent investigation.
India-Pakistan Tension
It is pertinent to note that on April 22, 26 people were killed and about a dozen injured in a firing incident at a tourist spot in Pahalgam in occupied Kashmir, after which India started blaming Pakistan without any evidence and unilaterally suspended the Indus Water Treaty.
However, Pakistan not only condemned the Pahalgam incident, but Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also offered that if India wants to conduct an impartial investigation into the matter, Pakistan is ready for all kinds of cooperation.
India is also making bold claims of taking action against Pakistan, but Pakistan's political and military leadership has made it clear that any provocation will be met with a response that India will always remember.
