Dr Lubna Zaheer, Syed Noor join hands to support thalassemia awareness at Noor Foundation
Event drew support from respected media personalities

Lahore: Chairperson of the Film and Broadcasting Department at the University of the Punjab, Professor Dr Lubna Zaheer, along with renowned film director Syed Noor, visited the Noor Foundation to mark World Thalassemia Day. The event served as a powerful message of compassion, awareness, and advocacy in the fight against thalassemia.
During the visit, Dr Lubna Zaheer interacted with young patients receiving treatment for the disease, distributing gift hampers and pizza boxes—generously sponsored by various companies—to bring joy and encouragement to the children. She also took part in a symbolic walk organized to raise awareness about thalassemia prevention.

The event drew support from respected media personalities, including veteran radio broadcaster Ahmed Sheikh and television anchor Dr Mehmood, all of whom highlighted the role of public engagement in promoting health education.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Zaheer stressed the importance of introducing legislation to make pre-marital thalassemia testing mandatory. “Public awareness must translate into public policy. Prevention through screening is essential to break the cycle of this hereditary disease,” she asserted.

She also praised Dr Bashir and his team at the Noor Foundation for their tireless efforts and deep commitment to this humanitarian cause.
The presence of influential figures like Dr Lubna Zaheer and Syed Noor added weight to the call for action, making the event a memorable step forward in raising national awareness about thalassemia.
