Railway employees’ attendance will now be recorded via a biometric system

Lahore: The federal government has decided to provide Wi-Fi facilities at all major railway stations across Pakistan to enhance passenger convenience.
The decision was made during a meeting between Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi and the Chairman of the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB), where digital upgrades were discussed.
As part of broader reforms, railway employees’ attendance will now be recorded via a biometric system, and all departments of Pakistan Railways will be transitioned towards digitalization.
Minister Abbasi also paid a surprise visit to Lahore Railway Station to inspect cleanliness and food quality. He directed officials to complete the upgrade of the waiting area and business lounge within 60 days and ordered the prompt installation of air conditioners.
Additionally, he reviewed progress on the installation of escalators at the platforms and emphasized the need to make the railway’s mobile application more user-friendly, reflecting the ministry’s push for modernization and improved service delivery.
