Shipments were ordered to be either returned to India or destroyed within the US

(Web Desk): In the United States, authorities have rejected at least 15 air-shipped consignments of mangoes due to missing or incomplete documentation.
According to media reports, the shipments were ordered to be either returned to India or destroyed within the US. Due to the perishable nature of mangoes and the high cost of sending them back to India, all exporters chose to destroy the consignments.
The affected shipments had undergone irradiation treatment in Mumbai on May 8 and 9, but were rejected upon arrival at various US airports, including Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Atlanta.
US officials pointed out inconsistencies in the documentation related to the irradiation process. According to exporters, this treatment is essential and involves exposing the fruit to specific levels of radiation to kill pests and extend shelf life. Therefore, the issue was not the presence of pests, but rather paperwork related to pest control protocols.
