Punjab to regularize illegal housing societies

Lahore: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz says that amnesty for illegal housing schemes will have to be considered.

A meeting chaired by Maryam Nawaz considered the mechanism for regularizing illegal housing societies.

While briefing the meeting, it was informed that the total number of housing societies in Punjab is 7,905 covering an area of ​​approximately 2 million kanals, and 2,687 have been approved, while 5,118 are illegal or under process. Out of 707 under the auspices of LDA, 427 have been approved, and 206 are illegal.

The meeting agreed to form a high-level committee for the regularization of illegal housing schemes and decided that a housing society management system would be introduced. Approval, management, and transfer of housing societies will be possible online, and NOC fees will also be paid online after uploading documents.

The meeting ordered the abolition of unnecessary NOC for the registration of housing societies.

On this occasion, the Chief Minister of Punjab said that money is taken from the poor people, and plots are not provided. Government departments are also equally responsible for the establishment of illegal housing societies due to collusion.

Maryam Nawaz stated that the common man who buys plots is punished for collusion. If illegal housing societies were being formed, why did the relevant institutions turn a blind eye?

She added that, according to the rules and regulations, one should consider granting amnesty to housing schemes.
