Reportedly, Pilar Bardem was hospitalized earlier this week with a respiratory crisis.

“She left in peace, without suffering and surrounded by the love of her family,” wrote her children Carlos, Monica and Javier in a message.

“Our mother, our example, has died,” added siblings.

Born in Seville in 1939, Pilar Bardem was the daughter of a couple of actors and the sister of the famous filmmaker Juan Antonio Bardem.

In 2008, the actress received the Gold Medal for Merit in Spanish Fine Arts.

On the other hand, Spain’s Prime Minister, Pedro Sanchez, paid tribute to the actress.

On his official twitter handle, the premier wrote, “She leaves us an enormous legacy in film, theater and television but the great Pilar Bardem was, above all, a defender of equality, liberty and the rights of all. Her memory will be with us always”.

The legandary actress also served from 2002-2018 as president of AISGE, the association that protects the intellectual property rights of performers.
