‘News circulating on social media regarding a ban on installing two electricity meters is completely false’

(Web Desk): A significant statement has been issued by the Ministry of Power Division regarding the rumored ban on installing more than one electricity meter in a single household.
The Ministry has declared reports about a ban on dual electricity meters as fake.
According to the report, a spokesperson for the Power Division stated that the news circulating on social media regarding a "ban on installing two electricity meters" is completely false, misleading, and a malicious attempt to spread unrest among the public. Spreading and sharing such false information is a punishable offense under the PECA Act.
The statement clarified that, as per existing regulations, it is still permissible to obtain a second electricity meter for a residential property.
According to the NEPRA Consumer Services Manual 2021, any residential unit consisting of a separate portion, independent circuit, separate entrance, and separate kitchen is eligible for a separate electricity meter.
However, laws to prevent electricity misuse and the wrongful benefit of subsidies have existed in the past and continue to be fully enforced today.
The public is urged not to pay attention to such false news and to cooperate with electricity distribution companies in the proper and transparent use of electricity meters so that rightful consumers receive their due benefits promptly and fairly.
