(Web Desk): A new phase of trade negotiations between China and the United States has begun in London, following talks held last month in Geneva between the two rival nations.
According to global news agency AFP, citing China's official news agency Xinhua, both sides are meeting at the historic Lancaster House under the administration of the UK Foreign Office. Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng is once again leading the Chinese delegation in London.
US President Donald Trump stated on Friday that Treasury Secretary Scott Besant, Commerce Secretary Howard Litnick, and Trade Representative Jamison Greer are heading the American negotiation team.
President Trump posted on his Truth Social platform that the meeting "should be very good."
His press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, told Fox News on Sunday: “We want China and the US to continue forward with the agreement reached in Geneva.”
Although the British government reiterated that it is not a participant in the talks, a spokesperson stated: “We are a nation that champions free trade. British officials have always made it clear that trade wars are in no one’s interest, so we welcome these negotiations.”
