Khamenei appoints Maj Gen Amir Hatami Iran's new army chief

(Web Desk): By order of the Supreme Leader of Iran’s Armed Forces, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, Major General Amir Hatami has been appointed as the new Chief Commander of the Army of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

According to Iran’s official news agency IRNA, in his decree, Ayatollah Khamenei cited Major General Hatami’s commitment, competence, and extensive experience as the basis for his appointment, expressing expectations that he would lead the army with a revolutionary and transformative approach.

General Hatami previously served as Iran’s Minister of Defense from 2013 to 2021.

The Supreme Leader’s decree further stated that, given the army’s large pool of loyal and capable personnel and the valuable experiences gained during the Sacred Defense and subsequent years, it is expected that under General Hatami’s leadership, efforts will intensify to enhance combat readiness, strengthen spiritual and ideological foundations, improve the welfare of personnel, and promote cooperation with other branches of the armed forces.

Ayatollah Khamenei also praised the sincere and commendable services of the outgoing commander, Major General Seyyed Abdolrahim Mousavi.

Following the martyrdom of General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri, Ayatollah Khamenei has appointed Major General Seyyed Abdolrahim Mousavi as the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces.
