‘Through this initiative, citizens will benefit from international-standard transport services’

Lahore: In a major step to promote eco-friendly public transport, the Punjab government has decided to establish 2,000 charging stations across the province for electric buses.
Under the directive of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, an initial fleet of 600 electric buses will be launched across the province.
Chairing a video link meeting with deputy commissioners, Punjab Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman instructed all DCs to identify suitable locations for electric charging stations and bus depots.
The Chief Secretary stated that, according to the vision of the Chief Minister, modern travel facilities through electric buses will be provided in all cities. Through this initiative, citizens will benefit from international-standard transport services.
He also instructed the deputy commissioners to launch a campaign against overloading in public transport. He emphasized that improving governance and healthcare is a top priority for the Punjab government, and administrative officers must work continuously to maintain cleanliness standards in their districts.
He further stated that eliminating corruption in the revenue department is a core responsibility of the deputy commissioners. Curbing corruption will provide relief to the common man. The computerization of land records should be completed swiftly, and necessary instructions were also issued to prevent incidents of dog bites.
The meeting was attended by the secretaries of health and transport departments, the CEO of LWMC, the DG of LDA, and all divisional and deputy commissioners via video link.
