Estimated international market value of the destroyed narcotics is approximately $329 million


Karachi: The Pakistan Coast Guards have destroyed drugs worth over Rs93 billion that were seized over the past year.
In connection with the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the Pakistan Coast Guards incinerated the narcotics confiscated in various operations conducted during the year.
The destroyed substances included: 10,862 kg of hashish, 80 kg of crystal meth, 1,758 kg of heroin, 117 kg of ice (methamphetamine), 150 kg of cannabis, 2,888 bottles of liquor, and 2,402 tons of beer.
According to a spokesperson for the Coast Guards, June 26 is observed every year as the International Day Against Drug Abuse. The purpose of the day is to raise awareness among the global community about the dangers of drug trafficking and substance abuse, and to destroy seized narcotics.
The spokesperson emphasized that drugs are a lethal poison for human life, and that both smuggling and drug abuse are serious threats to national and international communities. Collective efforts are necessary to combat these evils.
In connection with the awareness campaign, the Pakistan Coast Guards also educated school and college students on the harmful effects of drug use.
A special drug burning ceremony was held near Hasan Shah Mazar in Karachi to destroy the contraband. Similar drug incineration events were also held this year in Gwadar, Uthal, and Karachi under the supervision of the Pakistan Coast Guards.
The estimated international market value of the destroyed narcotics is approximately $329 million, which is equivalent to Rs93.4 billion in Pakistani currency.
