According to a spokesperson for the Coast Guards, June 26 is observed every year as the International Day Against Drug Abuse. The purpose of the day is to raise awareness among the global community about the dangers of drug trafficking and substance abuse, and to destroy seized narcotics.
The spokesperson emphasized that drugs are a lethal poison for human life, and that both smuggling and drug abuse are serious threats to national and international communities. Collective efforts are necessary to combat these evils.
In connection with the awareness campaign, the Pakistan Coast Guards also educated school and college students on the harmful effects of drug use.
A special drug burning ceremony was held near Hasan Shah Mazar in Karachi to destroy the contraband. Similar drug incineration events were also held this year in Gwadar, Uthal, and Karachi under the supervision of the Pakistan Coast Guards.
