Lahore: Following the recent increase in diesel prices, another hike in railway fares is expected.
According to railway officials, under the current circumstances, an increase in fares is inevitable. However, efforts are being made to place the least possible burden on passenger trains.
Railway officials stated that the rise in diesel prices has caused severe financial losses to the railway. The additional burden will have to be passed on to both passenger and freight trains. A committee will soon decide how much the fares will be increased.
Officials added that on June 18, passenger train fares were increased by 3%, while freight train fares saw a 4% increase.
