Full implementation of Section 144 imposed by Punjab govt is being ensured


Lahore: Today, on the occasion of 8 Muharram-ul-Haram, arrangements have been tightened for the security of mourning processions and gatherings across Punjab.
According to the spokesperson of the Punjab Police, more than 58,000 officers and personnel are on security duty across the province. In Lahore alone, more than 3,600 police officers and personnel are performing security duty. Today, 86 mourning processions are being taken out in Lahore while 416 gatherings are being held. A total of 1,365 processions and 3,940 gatherings are being held across the province.
According to the Punjab Police, more than 27,000 community volunteers are also assisting in security matters, while security will remain on high alert throughout the province during the Ashra of Muharram-ul-Haram.
IG Punjab Dr Usman Anwar has said that full implementation of Section 144 imposed by the Punjab government is being ensured. There is a complete ban on aerial firing, display of weapons, provocative speeches, and publication of hateful material.
Dr Usman Anwar has further said that no procession or gathering will be allowed anywhere except on the routes and places decided under the code of conduct. All activities are being monitored fully through the Safe Cities Authority, district administration cameras, and other sources. CTD, Special Branch, Traffic Police, Dolphin Squad, Peru Force, and other field forces have also been mobilized for security matters.
He has directed that the Loudspeaker Act should be strictly implemented, and immediate action should be taken against the elements spreading hateful content on social media.
He has also informed that the control rooms of all districts have been linked to the central control room of the Central Police Office so that timely action can be taken in any emergency.
