Karachi tragedy: 26 dead as rescue efforts continue in Lyari building collapse
Rescue operation is ongoing with the help of scanners

Karachi: Three days have passed since the tragic collapse of a dilapidated residential building in Lyari's Baghdadi area, but the rescue operation is still ongoing. So far, 26 bodies have been recovered from the rubble.
Debris removal continues for the third consecutive day, and late last night, the bodies of three more individuals — including a young girl — were retrieved.
According to a Rescue 1122 spokesperson, a total of 26 bodies have been recovered from the debris. These include 9 women, 15 men, a 10-year-old boy, and a one-and-a-half-year-old girl.
The deceased child has been identified as one-and-a-half-year-old Muqaddas, while another body has been identified as Shoaib. The bodies were identified by family members themselves. The third body has not yet been identified. As the debris is being cleared, more bodies continue to be discovered.
There are still concerns that more people may be trapped under the rubble, which is why the rescue operation is ongoing with the help of scanners.
According to Rescue 1122 officials, during the operation, cash, cheques, and jewelry were found at three different locations, all of which have been handed over to the Union Council (UC) chairman. Meanwhile, a large number of local residents and affected families remain present at the site, anxiously searching for their loved ones.
Rescue teams, police, and district administration are continuing their efforts, doing everything possible to recover those still trapped under the rubble.
It is important to note that the building had long been declared dangerous, but due to the lack of timely action, this tragic incident occurred.
