Jhelum police rescue 400 citizens during flash floods, receive appreciation from IGP

Jhelum: Jhelum police rescued more than 400 citizens during flash floods on Thursday following a flood emergency in Jhelum due to torrential rains and river overflow.

Under the leadership of District Police Officer (DPO Tariq Aziz, Jhelum police have rescued over 400 citizens stranded in the floodwaters so far, according to a spokesperson of the Punjab police.

"Punjab police are conducting rescue operations without regard for their own safety to save flood victims," said the Punjab IG.

During a rescue operation, a brave Jhelum police officer, Haider, was swept away by strong flood currents while assisting stranded citizens, stated the DPO Jhelum. Search efforts for the missing officer are still underway, the DPO added.

IG Punjab Dr Usman Anwar commended Jhelum Police for their efforts in saving precious lives. DPO Tariq Aziz and his team continue to take active part in relief operations in the flood-affected areas, the IG Punjab noted.

"Punjab Police are fully participating in rescue operations in collaboration with relevant agencies across flood-affected regions," said the IG.
