NEPRA seeks relief of Rs53.393 billion for consumers

(Web Desk): After a reduction in capacity charges, the path has been cleared for further cuts in electricity prices. A nationwide decrease in electricity rates is expected under the quarterly adjustment mechanism, as power distribution companies have filed a petition with NEPRA seeking relief of Rs53.393 billion for consumers.
The power distribution companies approached NEPRA, requesting a reduction in electricity prices and proposing relief of Rs53.393 billion for consumers. The petition has been submitted under the final quarterly adjustment for the previous fiscal year, and NEPRA is scheduled to hold a hearing on August 4 regarding the request.
In the petition submitted by the DISCOs, a reduction of Rs53.714 billion has been sought under the head of capacity charges. Additionally, they have requested recovery of Rs662 million under transmission and distribution losses, and Rs182 million under operations and maintenance costs.
According to the petition, the quarterly adjustment from April to June 2025 will also be applicable to K-Electric. In the third quarterly adjustment of the previous fiscal year, electricity was reduced by Rs1.55 per unit, and that adjustment was applied for the months of May to July 2025.
