WhatsApp tests new night mode for camera interface

(Web Desk): WhatsApp is rolling out a new night mode feature for its in-app camera, currently available to select beta testers on Android.

The feature aims to improve photo quality in low-light conditions, helping users take clearer, brighter images directly within the app.

According to WABetaInfo, the night mode introduces a moon-shaped icon at the top of the camera interface. This icon appears automatically in dark or dim environments. Users can manually activate the mode by tapping the icon, which triggers software-based enhancements that increase exposure and reduce image noise. These adjustments help bring out more detail, particularly in shadows, without applying artificial filters or visual effects.

The feature is designed for use in low-light situations such as indoor settings or nighttime scenes. However, its effectiveness may vary based on the lighting conditions — in extremely dark environments, the improvements may be subtle.

Unlike many camera apps that activate night mode automatically, WhatsApp’s version gives users control over when to enable it, allowing for a more personalized experience.

The feature is part of the latest WhatsApp beta for Android, available via the Google Play Store. It will gradually be rolled out to more users over the coming weeks, enhancing the app’s photo capabilities without needing third-party tools.
