The water level inside the center rose to nearly 2 meters, preventing the elderly residents from escaping

Beijing: Dozens of people have died in a care home for the elderly due to flooding in China’s capital, Beijing.
According to foreign media reports, severe rains and floods have caused widespread devastation across China, resulting in multiple confirmed fatalities.
Media reports state that an elderly care center located in the town of Miyun District, central Beijing, was affected by the flooding. The center housed around 77 elderly residents, of whom approximately 40 became trapped due to the rising waters.
According to reports, the water level inside the center rose to nearly 2 meters (around 6 feet), preventing the elderly residents from escaping. As a result, 31 individuals drowned and lost their lives.
A Chinese official, speaking at a press conference, admitted shortcomings in the response and said that the area had long been considered safe and, therefore, was not included in the evacuation plan.
