Landslide in Gilgit's Danyore stream kills 8 volunteers during flood relief efforts
There is still fear that several people may remain trapped under the rubble

(Web Desk): Eight volunteers were killed after being buried under debris due to a landslide in the Danyore stream in Gilgit.
According to the police, local volunteers were working to restore a flood-affected water channel when a landslide occurred, burying several individuals under the debris.
Hospital sources say that eight volunteers lost their lives after being buried under the landslide. There is still fear that several people may remain trapped under the rubble.
According to hospital sources, three injured individuals are currently receiving treatment at the hospital, while local residents continue with the rescue operations. Meanwhile, emergency has been declared in hospitals.
Regarding the incident, a spokesperson for the provincial government stated that climate change is at its peak in Gilgit-Baltistan, and the destruction caused by floods due to melting glaciers is ongoing. After an increase in the water flow from the Shishper stream, flooding occurred in the stream, severely damaging the lands of nearby communities.
The provincial government spokesperson further stated that agricultural lands have been affected by the floods, and trees have been washed away. The Karakoram Highway has also been impacted, and the Hunza route has once again been closed.
According to the spokesperson, due to erosion on the Karakoram Highway, traffic to Hunza is being diverted through the Nagar road.
