‘The electricity rates will be set independently and will be significantly lower than those of K-Electric’


Karachi: Sindh Energy Minister Nasir Hussain Shah has announced that residents of Karachi will now receive cheaper electricity.
In a statement, Nasir Hussain Shah said that the Sindh Electric Power Regulatory Authority (SEPRA) has been constitutionally approved by the Sindh Assembly. Recruitment for SEPRA has already been completed, and its official notification will be issued later this month.
He stated that now citizens of Karachi will also be able to access affordable electricity. The electricity rates will be set independently and will be significantly lower than those of K-Electric.
The Energy Minister said that the electricity transmitted by STDC (Sindh Transmission and Dispatch Company) will not be subject to NEPRA’s rates. “We will generate electricity ourselves and transmit it under STDC,” he said, adding that electricity provided through STDC will therefore be much cheaper than that regulated by NEPRA.
Nasir Shah further said that both industries and residential consumers in Karachi will be provided cheap electricity under SEPRA, and efforts are being made to ensure that the first supply of electricity under SEPRA is delivered to the K-Electric grid.
