PM to convene high-level meeting to address climate change impacts

Islamabad: The Prime Minister has started working on a strategy for the construction of water reservoirs, for which an important meeting will be convened soon.

According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, work is underway to formulate an effective policy to deal with the effects of climate change following the orders of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The working paper of the policy will be shared with all provincial governments.

According to the statement, the Prime Minister has decided to convene a high-level meeting as soon as the emergency is lifted, in which the Chief Ministers of the four provinces and heads of relevant institutions will participate, while the Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir and the Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan will also be invited.

The statement said that the Prime Minister is formulating a strategy for the construction of water reservoirs in the four provinces, Azad Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan. The water reservoirs will be constructed in consultation and with full coordination of all the provinces.

The Prime Minister has said that climate change is a reality and only through effective preparation can we avoid the damage of natural disasters.

Shahbaz Sharif stated that the four provinces, Azad Kashmir, GB, and the federation, have to work together on climate change. Everyone has to work together to protect people from the harmful effects of climate change.
