(Web Desk): An F-16 fighter jet crashed and was destroyed during a practice session for the Radom Air Show in Poland on Thursday, resulting in the death of the pilot, which has been confirmed by authorities.
The incident occurred around 5:30 PM local time when the aircraft went out of control and crashed onto the runway, bursting into flames.
Local media and videos from the crash site showed the aircraft descending rapidly before hitting the ground and exploding, after which thick black smoke spread across the area.
Spectators who had gathered to watch the air show also witnessed the tragic incident and expressed their sorrow.
According to local media, the runway was damaged due to the crash, following which the organizers canceled the Radom Air Show scheduled for August 30 and 31.
Poland’s Armed Forces General Command confirmed the crash, stating that the aircraft belonged to the 31st Tactical Air Base near Poznań. Fortunately, no bystanders were injured in the accident. A military statement said rescue operations were launched immediately at the crash site.
Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz visited the crash site and paid tribute to the deceased pilot. Prime Minister Donald Tusk also expressed his condolences over the tragedy.
