According to the DG PDMA, this is the first time in history that such a large-scale disaster has been encountered


Lahore: According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), the death toll from floods in Punjab has risen to 28.
During a press conference, DG PDMA Irfan Kathia and Punjab Relief Commissioner Nabeel Javed stated that such a situation in the Sutlej River has not been witnessed since 1955.
The DG PDMA said that the surge of water headed toward Kasur was due to a dam breach in India, and as a result, they were forced to breach a protective embankment to save Kasur.
He added that after Head Sulemanki, there will be potential danger at Head Islam, and Okara and Sahiwal are also at risk due to flooding in the Ravi River.
According to the DG, this is the first time in history that such a large-scale disaster has been encountered. He confirmed 28 deaths so far, but emphasized that rescue teams have responded promptly in all affected areas.
Punjab Relief Commissioner Nabeel Javed warned that Okara, Pakpattan, and surrounding areas could face escalating problems, and that all government resources will be utilized according to the evolving situation.
He also stated that efforts are being made to ensure evacuation of all affected areas.
