Islamabad: The United Nations in Pakistan has launched the Pakistan United Nations Network on Migration (UNNM) in Islamabad, marking a significant step towards unified migration governance and responding to human trafficking and migrant smuggling challenges.

The network aims to promote policy coherence and integrate migration policies into broader development goals.

The launch event featured the inauguration of Pakistan's first Migration Multi-Partner Trust Fund (MMPTF) program, implemented jointly by IOM and UNODC.

The program contributes to national efforts in migration management and governance, combating human trafficking and migrant smuggling.

"The establishment of this network is a testament to our collective resolve to ensure that migration is safe, orderly, and regular," said Mr. Mohamed Yahya, UN Resident Coordinator.

"Life makes us move. But journeys, either from our home to new destinations or back to our country, should become easier, more dignified," said Moazzam Ali, a Pakistani migrant who opted for voluntary return from Romania.

A high-level panel discussion on "Enhancing whole-of-government migration governance in the age of complex mobility dynamics and emerging global challenges" featured representatives from the Government of Pakistan, IOM, and civil society organizations.

The launch ceremony reaffirmed a strengthened commitment to multi-stakeholder partnerships for migration governance in Pakistan.
