‘Targeting residential buildings and Hamas leadership in Doha was a blatant violation of international law’

Doha: Qatar has issued a strong condemnation following an Israeli airstrike on its soil that targeted the leadership of the Palestinian resistance group Hamas.
Israel conducted an airstrike in Doha, the Qatari capital, killing senior Hamas leader Khalil al-Hayya, according to reports. In a statement, the Israeli military confirmed that its air force had targeted top Hamas leadership in Doha.
Sources within Hamas stated that several senior leaders were holding a meeting at the time of the strike to discuss the US ceasefire proposal related to the ongoing war in Gaza.
Following the attack, Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs released an official response.
Dr. Majid bin Mohammad Al Ansari, spokesperson for the Qatari Foreign Ministry, strongly condemned the Israeli attack, stating that targeting residential buildings and Hamas leadership in Doha was a blatant violation of international law and a serious threat to the safety and security of Qatari citizens and residents.
He emphasized that the Qatari security forces, civil defense, and other relevant authorities had promptly launched response efforts to secure the affected residential areas and ensure public safety.
The spokesperson added that Qatar firmly rejects Israel’s reckless behavior and any attempts to undermine regional peace or target Qatar’s sovereignty and national security. He reiterated that Qatar would not tolerate any action that endangers its territory or people.
The Qatari government further stated that a high-level investigation is underway, and more details will be released as they become available.
Meanwhile, an Israeli official claimed that the United States was informed prior to the strike and had even provided assistance in targeting Hamas leaders in Doha.
