Sugar prices spike across Pakistan

(Web Desk): Despite all government efforts and claims to stabilize sugar prices in the country, sugar has become even more expensive over the past week, with Karachi residents forced to buy the most expensive sugar in the country.

Despite the allowance of sugar imports and all government measures, sugar prices continue to rise, and the market rate for sugar remains higher than the government-set price.

According to the Federal Bureau of Statistics, the average price of sugar increased by Rs2.65 per kilogram in one week, bringing the average price to Rs184.01 per kilogram across the country.

The new sugar price data released by the bureau shows that the maximum price of sugar remains steady at Rs195 per kilogram, and Karachi residents are compelled to purchase sugar at the highest price of Rs195 per kilogram in the country.

According to the bureau, the average sugar price last week was Rs181.36 per kilogram, which rose by Rs2.65 this week to Rs184.01 per kilogram.

The bureau also stated that one year ago, the average sugar price in the country was Rs142.28 per kilogram.

In Punjab, the maximum sugar price is Rs190 per kilogram. It is worth noting that last month, the official retail price of sugar was fixed at Rs175 per kilogram.
