Total debt and liabilities of Pakistan as of June 2025 have reached Rs94,197 billion


Islamabad: The details of the loans taken by the Shehbaz Sharif government in the first 16 months have been revealed.
During the first 16 months of the current government, an increase of Rs13,078 billion was recorded in loans. This increase in the federal government's loans occurred from March 2024 to June 2025.
According to a document of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), during the 16 months from March 2024 to June 2025, the federal government's internal debt increased by Rs11,796 billion and external debt by Rs1,282 billion, taking it to Rs77,888 billion by June 2025, while the federal government's debt was Rs64,810 billion by February 2024.
According to the document, the central government's domestic debt as of February 2024 was Rs42,675 billion, which increased to Rs54,471 billion by June 2025. Similarly, the federal government's external debt as of February 2024 was Rs22,134 billion, and by June 2025, the external debt had reached Rs23,417 billion.
It is pertinent to note that according to the documents of the SBP, the total debt and liabilities of Pakistan as of June 2025 have reached Rs94,197 billion, and an increase of Rs8,740 billion was recorded in the internal debt and liabilities during the last fiscal year 2024-25.
