Owen Cooper makes Emmy history as youngest winner at 15 for ‘Adolescence’ role
Adolescence follows story of a 13-year-old boy arrested for murdering his classmates and delves into psychological, social, and legal aftermath for him and his family

(Web Desk): Owen Cooper made history at the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards, becoming the youngest actor to win in the Best Supporting Actor category for a limited or anthology series. The 15-year-old British actor was honoured for his powerful performance as Jamie Miller in the acclaimed series Adolescence.
Taking the stage for his acceptance speech, Cooper described the moment as "surreal." He reflected on his humble beginnings, saying, "Honestly, when I started these drama classes a couple years back, I didn’t expect to be in the United States, never mind here."
He encouraged others to follow their passions, regardless of fear or uncertainty. "I think tonight proves that if you listen and you focus and you step out of your comfort zone, you can achieve anything in life. I was nothing about three years ago and I’m here now. Who cares if you get embarrassed? Anything can be possible," he said.
Adolescence follows the story of a 13-year-old boy arrested for murdering his classmates and delves into the psychological, social, and legal aftermath for him and his family. The series was a major winner of the night, taking home eight Emmy awards, including six at the main ceremony and two at the Creative Arts Emmys.
Later in the evening, Erin Doherty, who plays Cooper’s on-screen psychologist, won Best Actress—her first Emmy award. In her heartfelt speech, she praised her co-star and the cast, saying, “It looks like I'm just going to be banging on about Adolescence and Owen Cooper for the rest of my life—but you know, there's worse things.”
She also thanked co-stars Stephen Graham and Hannah Walters, calling them “generosity personified,” while joking, “Even though Stephen called me a tea cosy today.”
