ChatGPT rolls out new rules for users under 18
OpenAI announces it will implement new measures to ensure safer use of ChatGPT for minors

(Web Desk): Renowned artificial intelligence company OpenAI has introduced new safety rules in its chatbot ChatGPT for users under the age of 18.
According to a technology website, OpenAI announced that it will implement new measures to ensure safer use of ChatGPT for minors.
As part of the new system, the platform will attempt to estimate a user’s age. If ChatGPT detects that the user is under 18, it will switch them to a version of the model designed to handle less sensitive topics.
Under these rules, sexual or intimate conversations, as well as flirtatious exchanges, will be strictly prohibited for underage users.
If a minor expresses thoughts of self-harm or emotional distress, ChatGPT will attempt to alert their parents—or, in severe cases, notify local authorities.
Parents will also have the option to set “blackout hours” during which ChatGPT cannot be accessed by their child.
If the system is uncertain about a user’s age, the stricter safety rules for minors will automatically apply. OpenAI stated that younger users require greater protection.
The move comes in response to incidents where young people reportedly attempted suicide or suffered mental health challenges after conversations with ChatGPT. The company emphasized that the new safeguards are intended to help ensure minors use ChatGPT safely, avoiding exposure to inappropriate content or conversations.
OpenAI added that parental controls will be available by the end of this month.
