According to details, the quake damaged few buildings; however, no loss of life was reported. The depth of the earthquake was 10 km (6.21 miles) from beneath the surface.
Footages showed that as soon as the earthquake hit, people started scrambling into the streets in the northern coastal city of Piura.
The tremors also sent products on supermarket shelves tumbling to the floor and cut power to parts of the region.
Newly elected Peru’s President Pedro Castillo planned to travel to the north of the country to survey the damage.
