Trump to sign executive order approving TikTok separation deal

(Web Desk): A White House official has said that U.S. President Donald Trump will sign an executive order later this week affirming that a deal to separate TikTok’s U.S. operations from its Chinese parent company, ByteDance, meets the requirements set forth in the 2024 law.
According to international news agency Reuters, the official told reporters during a conference call that Washington believes China has approved the agreement.
He added that there are no plans for further discussions with Beijing over the deal’s details, though both parties still need to finalize additional documentation to complete the agreement.
Trump is seeking to avoid an outright ban on the short-video app, which has about 170 million American users, after Congress passed a law mandating ownership changes.
The U.S. law to restrict TikTok was passed last year and required the company to divest from Chinese ownership by January 20, 2025.
The legislation demands TikTok separate from its Chinese parent company due to concerns raised by lawmakers and intelligence officials that the Chinese government could access sensitive data of American users or use the app for propaganda.
TikTok has consistently denied these allegations, claiming it has implemented strict data protection measures.
President Trump has extended the deadline for compliance until mid-December to allow time for the restructuring of TikTok’s U.S. assets, the inclusion of American investors, and ensuring the new ownership qualifies as a complete separation under the 2024 law.
Progress made last week toward finalizing the deal marks a significant development in long-standing negotiations between the world’s two largest economies—part of broader efforts to de-escalate a trade war that has shaken global markets.
