‘Withholding tax on withdrawing money from banks is against Islamic principles and amounts to injustice’

Islamabad: The Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) has declared the withholding tax on cash withdrawals to be un-Islamic.
A meeting of the Council was held under the chairmanship of Raghib Naeemi, during which various matters were discussed, followed by the issuance of an official statement.
In the statement, the Council said that the government-imposed withholding tax on withdrawing money from banks is against Islamic principles and amounts to injustice.
Regarding the storage of human breast milk, the Council stated that specialized institutions for storage may be established under specific conditions, but emphasized that legislation is necessary beforehand to avoid potential issues. The Council also recommended that it should be involved in the legislative process concerning human milk.
The Council opposed amendments proposed in the Qisas and Diyat law, particularly rejecting a bill suggesting changes to the legally defined values of Diyat. The Council insisted that the Shariah-based standards for Diyat, which include gold, silver, and camels, should remain part of the law. The bill in question proposes removing silver and replacing it with a non-Shariah-compliant gold value, which the Council rejected.
Additionally, the Council addressed the use of insulin for diabetic patients, stating that halal-based insulin is available and should be preferred. Therefore, the use of insulin containing porcine (pig-derived) ingredients should be avoided where halal alternatives are accessible.
