Says he is stepping down from position of chief minister on instructions of PTI founder Imran Khan

Islamabad: Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Gandapur has announced his resignation from office. In a statement, Gandapur said he was stepping down from the position of chief minister on the instructions of the PTI founder.
He added that Sohail Afridi would have his “full support and backing,” emphasising that “we will move forward in unity for the release of the PTI founder and in line with the party’s policy.”
Earlier, PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja confirmed to the media that the party had decided to remove Ali Amin Gandapur from the post of chief minister.
According to Raja, Sohail Afridi has been nominated as the new Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He said the decision was made by Imran Khan, explaining that the province was facing an alarming wave of terrorism. “Today, our officers and soldiers have been martyred in Orakzai. The KP government has been advised to distance itself from the federal government’s flawed policies,” he noted.
Raja further stated that dialogue is the only way to end terrorism, expressing hope that Sohail Afridi would guide the federal government and help ensure the protection of lives and property of the people.
He said the PTI founder had instructed Ali Amin Gandapur to resign, adding: “We believe it is in his best interest to step down. We are about to announce a new policy and begin a new chapter.”
Raja assured that there would be no complications in the transition: “Ali Amin will resign, and the assembly will elect Sohail Afridi as the new chief minister.”
Sohail Afridi, who hails from District Khyber, was elected to the provincial assembly from PK-70 for the first time. A long-time member of the Insaf Students Federation (ISF), Afridi previously served as Special Assistant to the Chief Minister on Communication and Works, and was later appointed Provincial Minister for Higher Education following a cabinet reshuffle.
