Antananarivo: Generation Z has overthrown the government in the African country of Madagascar. The military took power after youth-led anti-government protests, while President Andry Rajoelina fled the country.
Speaking on state television, military spokesman Colonel Michael Randrianarena announced the dissolution of parliament. He said that the military council would set a course of action for reforms and new elections over the next two years.

Thousands of young people, most of whom were Generation Z, participated in the 20-day protests across the country. The protesters were protesting against inflation, corruption, poor governance, and a lack of basic amenities.
According to the news agency, 22 people have died so far in the protests in Madagascar since September 25.
The United Nations and the African Union have urged respect for the democratic process in Madagascar and appealed for restraint.
