Tokyo Olympics: Karsten Warholm breaks world record in the men’s 400 meters hurdles
Tokyo: Norway’s Karsten Warholm brought his own world record down in the men’s 400m hurdles race by more than 0.7 seconds.
The Norwegian athlete ran an impressive race, setting a world record of 45.94 and by breaking the 46-second mark for the first time.
British former hurdler Colin Jackson described the time of 45.94 seconds, "truly unbelievable".
Watching Warholm's celebration, former 1500m Olympic silver medalist Steve Cram said: "No wonder he rips his shirt apart - he is Superman in this event!"
American silver medalist Rai Benjamin faced off Warholm all the way, attaining 46.17, not far from the world record set by the Norwegian on July 1. Previously, the 400 meters hurdles world record hadn't been broken since 1992.
It has been reported that four of the fastest times ever in the event were run in the Tokyo final.
