Islamabad: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Attaullah Tarar, has stated that Pakistan remains a steadfast opponent of terrorism in all its forms, with unparalleled sacrifices in the global fight against the menace.
Speaking at a high-level seminar organised by the Institute of Regional Studies (IRS), Tarar emphasised Pakistan's commitment to eradicating terrorism and praised the armed forces for their sacrifices. He attributed the persistence of terrorism in Pakistan to external support from India and Afghanistan to militant groups.
Tarar stressed the need for a cohesive, nationwide implementation of the National Action Plan to ensure lasting peace. He noted that Pakistan's security is interdependent with Afghanistan's, and instability in one country directly undermines peace and stability in the other.
Maj. Gen. (Retd.) Inam Ul Haq reported a sharp rise in cross-border terrorism, with 585 Afghan-backed attacks reported up to October 2025. He attributed this to active collusion between the Taliban regime and anti-Pakistan networks.
Experts at the seminar emphasized the need for a whole-of-nation approach to counterterrorism, combining kinetic and non-kinetic measures. They stressed that Pakistan must revamp its counterterrorism framework to address emerging extremist threats.
Pakistan remains committed to eradicating terrorism in all its forms. External support from India and Afghanistan fuels terrorism in Pakistan.
A cohesive National Action Plan is needed to ensure lasting peace. Cross-border terrorism is on the rise, with Afghan-backed attacks increasing. A whole-of-nation approach is imperative for effective counterterrorism
