Iconic Sultan Rahi's death anniversary observed today

Lahore: The 30th death anniversary of renowned Punjabi film actor Sultan Rahi will be observed on Friday, January 9. Sultan Rahi was one of the most celebrated heroes of Punjabi cinema during the 1980s. For nearly fifteen years, he dominated the film industry and set a world record by performing in more than seven hundred films, five hundred of which featured him in the lead role.

Sultan Rahi began his film career in 1971, and the exceptional success of the Punjabi film “Bashira” elevated him to superstar status.

It is worth noting that the pairing of Sultan Rahi and Mustafa Qureshi was widely regarded as a guarantee of box office success. Their blockbuster film “Maula Jatt” set new records, while other notable hits included Babul, Sidha Rasta, Shareef Badmash, Sala Sahab, Chan Veryam, Utra Putar, Putar Jage Da, Milay Ga Zulm Da Badla, Wahshi Jatt, Sher Khan, Sholay, Aakhri Jang, Jarnail Singh, Do Beghay Zameen, Sheran De Puttar and several others.

Sultan Rahi’s name is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records, and in recognition of his artistic contributions, he was honored with more than 150 film awards. He also worked alongside the leading actresses of his time, including Asiya, Anjuman, Saima, Gori, Neeli, and Babra Sharif.

Sultan Rahi passed away on January 9, 1996, after being fatally shot by unidentified assailants.
