Authorities said access to the hill station will be allowed in stages for local residents and tourists while road clearance work continues

Islamabad (APP): After heavy snowfall blocked roads leading to Murree, the district administration has partially reopened entry points to manage traffic and ensure safety.
Authorities said access to the hill station will be allowed in stages for local residents and tourists while road clearance work continues.
Heavy snowfall in Murree led to the closure of several key roads, causing travel problems for commuters and visitors. The Islamabad district administration said that some entry points to Murree have now been partially opened. The decision was taken after initial clearance work and an assessment of road conditions.
According to the administration, local residents and tourists will be allowed to enter Murree in phases. This step aims to prevent traffic congestion and reduce the risk of accidents on snow-covered roads. Officials said that controlled entry will remain in place until conditions improve.
A spokesperson for the district administration stated that heavy machinery is being used to clear snow from all major roads. Snow removal teams are working continuously to restore access routes as soon as possible. However, due to thick layers of snow on highways, traffic flow remains slow at several locations.
The spokesperson added that drivers are facing difficulties because of slippery road surfaces. Authorities have advised travelers to remain cautious and follow instructions issued by traffic officials. Motorists have also been urged to avoid unnecessary travel until roads are fully cleared.
The district administration said that once all roads are completely cleared of snow, all entry points to Murree will be fully reopened. Until then, traffic movement will be regulated to ensure public safety and smooth operations.
Instructions have been issued to the Motorway Police, Traffic Police, and other relevant departments to remain on high alert. These agencies have been directed to assist travelers, manage traffic, and provide timely information to the public. Patrols have been increased on key routes to monitor road conditions.
Officials said coordination among departments is ongoing to handle the situation effectively. The administration has also stressed the importance of following official updates before planning travel to Murree.
Authorities reiterated that public cooperation is essential during adverse weather conditions. Travelers are advised to use designated routes, follow traffic guidelines, and remain patient while clearance work continues.
