Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari has expressed profound sorrow over the martyrdom of Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei and other members of Iran’s senior leadership who were martyred alongside him.
In a statement today, he conveyed heartfelt condolences to the Government and the people of Iran.
The President said Pakistan stands with the Iranian nation in this moment of grief and shares in their loss.
He observed that the passing of a leader of such stature, along with other senior figures, would be deeply felt across the Muslim world.
Asif Ali Zardari prayed for the departed souls.
He also prayed to Allah Almighty to grant patience and fortitude to the people of Iran during this difficult time.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in a post on X, said the government and the people of Pakistan join the people of Iran in their hour of grief and sorrow and extend the most sincere condolences on the martyrdom of Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.
He also expressed Pakistan's concern over violation of the norms of international law.
The Prime Minister said it is an age-old convention that the Heads of State and Government should not be targeted.
He prayed for the departed soul and that Allah Almighty grant patience and strength to the Iranian people to bear this irreparable loss.
