Special meeting on austerity policy: Federal Cabinet decides to forgo two months’ salaries

Islamabad: Under the national austerity policy, the federal cabinet has decided to forgo two months’ salaries.
According to details, a meeting was held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to approve the national austerity policy. Chief ministers of all four provinces and the Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir attended the meeting via video link.
During the meeting, Federal Minister for Finance Muhammad Aurangzeb briefed the participants on the austerity policy. The participants were also informed about the need to conserve petroleum products due to the global situation and about cost-saving measures at the government level.
The meeting also discussed proposals to provide relief to poor and deserving citizens. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had earlier directed that the national austerity policy be formulated in consultation with the provinces.
