Russia vetoes US drafted anti-Iran resolution at the UN Security Council

New York: Russia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations has strongly rejected the proposed U.S. resolution against Iran, calling it yet another attempt to escalate tensions in the region.

According to foreign media reports, during his address at the Security Council, the Russian envoy made it clear that Moscow would not support any resolution that solely targets Iran while ignoring the root causes of the ongoing regional crisis.

Envoy Vasily Nebenzya said, “We reject every attempt to impose a one-sided narrative against Iran unless the real causes and driving factors behind the crisis are taken into account.”

During his speech, he warned that the approval of biased resolutions could trigger a new wave of tensions in the Middle East.

According to reports, the Russian envoy stated that maritime security in the Persian Gulf cannot be ensured through one-sided condemnation or provocative actions alone; rather, it requires an end to ongoing conflicts and a halt to military operations.

Russia also urged all members of the Security Council to avoid escalating tensions in the region and refrain from presenting confrontation-based resolutions.

It is worth mentioning that the United States, with the support of Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait, and Qatar, had presented the resolution. The resolution called on Iran to stop attacks in the Strait of Hormuz and end toll collections there.
