Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to the shared global goal of ensuring access to safe and nutritious food, free from the risks of disease and contamination.
In his message on World Food Safety Day, the Prime Minister said that everyone involved in agriculture and food systems including farmers, livestock breeders, fishermen, researchers, and food safety professionals—plays a vital role in ensuring food security. He paid tribute to their invaluable contributions and dedication.
The Prime Minister stated that the Federal Ministry of National Food Security and Research is undertaking comprehensive measures to strengthen food security, increase agricultural productivity, and mitigate the impacts of climate change through agricultural research and technology-based solutions.
He noted that Pakistan is blessed with fertile land, hardworking farmers, and abundant agricultural resources and potential. However, the country’s agriculture sector continues to face several challenges, including limited research, climate change, water scarcity, population growth, and changing food consumption patterns.
The Prime Minister said the government is working on an integrated strategy to address these issues. The measures include the provision of quality seeds, improved availability of agricultural inputs, increased use of modern farm machinery, strengthening agricultural value chains, and improving storage and market systems.
Shehbaz Sharif urged the nation to renew its commitment to valuing and protecting food and natural resources so that Pakistan can achieve a safe, nutritious, sustainable, and self-sufficient food future.
