PM Shehbaz, Field Marshal meet JD Vance; US VP praises Pakistan’s role in peace efforts

Zurich: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Field Marshal Asim Munir, and US Vice President JD Vance held a meeting at a negotiations center in Switzerland. During the meeting, Vice President Vance praised Pakistan’s role in the peace process, saying, “We love Pakistan. Pakistan has played an outstanding role in promoting peace.”
Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner were also present during the meeting between the Pakistani leadership and the US Vice President. The meeting took place on the sidelines of technical-level negotiations.
During the meeting, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner warmly greeted Field Marshal Asim Munir. The discussions were held in a cordial atmosphere and focused on the regional situation and matters of mutual interest.
Following the meeting with the US delegation, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is also scheduled to meet the Iranian delegation, led by Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and other senior officials will also attend.
Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei confirmed that a meeting between the Iranian and Swiss foreign ministers had taken place as part of a pre-arranged official schedule.
Baghaei added that the Iranian delegation would hold bilateral talks with Pakistan and Qatar. The United States is also expected to participate in four-party discussions involving Pakistan, Qatar, and Iran.
It is worth noting that US Vice President JD Vance, President Trump’s special representative Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner had already arrived in the Swiss city of Bürgenstock for the negotiations.
The Iranian delegation has also arrived in Switzerland to participate in the talks. The delegation is headed by Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and includes Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, senior national security official Ali Bagheri, Central Bank Governor Abdolnasser Hemmati, Kazem Gharibabadi, and Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei.
