Punjab govt prioritising farmers’ welfare: Salma Butt

LAHORE -- The Chamber of Food and Agriculture Pakistan organized a Farmers' Convention, bringing together farmers and representatives of the agricultural sector from across the country to discuss issues concerning Pakistan's agricultural development.

Salma Butt, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister of Punjab, attended the convention as the chief guest. The event was also attended by Mian Muhammad Ajmal, Chairman, Pakistan Board, Chamber of Food and Agriculture Pakistan; Shaukat Ali Chadhar, President, Chamber of Food and Agriculture Pakistan; Maqbool Ahmed Jutt, Chairman, Kisan Board Lahore; Syed Aamir Shah, Vice Chairman, Chamber of Food and Agriculture Punjab; and a large number of farmers and agricultural stakeholders from across Pakistan.

Addressing the convention, Salma Butt said that agriculture forms the backbone of Pakistan's economy, with farmers playing a vital role in ensuring the country's food security and contributing significantly to economic stability.

She emphasized that effective measures are essential to address the challenges faced by farmers, promote modern agricultural technologies, and further strengthen the agricultural sector.

She stated that the Punjab Government is actively addressing the issues faced by farmers and added that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has transformed the face of Punjab, enhancing the province's image around the world through her development initiatives.

Speaking on the occasion, Mian Muhammad Ajmal said that Pakistan's agricultural productivity can be significantly increased by providing farmers with access to modern technology, quality seeds, and improved market opportunities.

Shaukat Ali Chadhar said that farmers are the backbone of the national economy and stressed the need to ensure fair prices, modern facilities, and better market access for the farming community.

Maqbool Ahmed Jutt remarked that farmers remain united in their efforts to resolve the challenges facing the agricultural sector and that such conventions provide an important platform for highlighting farmers' concerns and proposing practical solutions.

The convention concluded with detailed discussions on key issues affecting the agricultural sector, including farmers' economic challenges, crop productivity, rising agricultural input costs, and market-related concerns.
