All the news from Apple’s ‘Surprise and shine’ event
Apple’s “Surprise and shine” event on September 9th featured the long-awaited launch of its first foldable phone, the iPhone Duo. The Verge’s Nilay Patel got a hands-on look at the Duo, which sports a passport-style design with a 5.4-inch front display and a 7.6-inch inside display. Apple’s foldable doesn’t come cheap, though — it starts at $1,999, and the top configuration comes in at $3,199. Alongside the Duo, Apple also announced the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, but the base iPhone 18 didn’t make an appearance and may not arrive until spring 2027. The new Pro phones feature a variable aperture camera, but they also cost $100 more than last year’s models. Apple raised prices on its older iPhones, too. The first Apple event with John Ternus as CEO also included the new Apple Watch Series 12, Apple Watch Ultra 4, Audio Intelligence Siri AI features, and the AirPods 5. You can catch up on everything announced and dive into The Verge’s hands-on first impressions below. Follow along here for all the latest news and updates.
