Karachi: At least 15 factory workers were killed while a rescue official sustained serious injuries after a 3rd degree blaze erupted at a chemical factory, located near Mehran Town in Karachi on Friday.


The huge fire reportedly erupted at 10 am and the cloud of smoke was visible from far flung areas of the city following which fire tenders have reached the scene and are battling the blaze.
Fire brigade officials say 15 to 20 workers were working in the factory. The identities have not been disclosed yet. While, among victims four were brothers.
According to Rescue officials, eight fire brigade vehicles are engaged in extinguishing the fire while there are also reports of workers being trapped inside the factory.
The rescue teams have labeled the incident as a case of third degree blaze and rushed the injured to a nearby hospital.
The firefighters are still working to douse the flames.
Though no loss of life was reported, the blaze caused damage worth millions of rupees.
The actual cause of fire is yet to be ascertained and investigations are under way.
