New Delhi: Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan and his wife Ayesha Mukherjee have officially parted ways, putting an end to their eight years of marriage.

A day ahead of India’s T20 World Cup team announcement, Delhi Capitals and India opener Shikhar Dhawan has suffered a personal blow as his wife Mukherji announced the separation in a post on Instagram late Tuesday.
"Being divorced once before already, felt like I had more at stake the second time round. I had more to prove. So when my second marriage broke down it was really scary," she wrote.
"Divorce means choosing myself and not settling and sacrificing my own life for the sake of a marriage. Divorce means even though you do your best and try your best things sometimes do not work out and that's ok," the Melbourne-based added.

The Indian cricketer, who was last seen on-field leading the young Indian team during the Sri Lanka tour in July, got engaged to Mukherji in 2009 and tied the knot in 2012. The couple has a son named ‘Zoravar’.
Ayesha Mukherjee also known as ‘Aesha Mukerji’ is a Melbourne-based boxer, was previously married to an Australian businessman with whom she has two daughters.
Dhawan is a seasoned campaigner and vital cog of the Men In Blue's limited-overs side, has been spearheading the formidable batting line-up of the team for almost 10 years.
He captained India for six white-ball matches in Sri Lanka.
However, Dhawan is currently eyeing a place in India's T20 World Cup squad which is to be announced today (September 8).
