Khairpur: A woman lost her life, while 11 others including women and children suffered multiple burns after lightning struck their home in Jhanda Shahk area of Khairpur on Thursday, police and rescuers said.


It was raining when the lightning struck the roof of the house. People nearby launched rescue efforts besides calling emergency services.
The injured recovered from the collapsed structure were admitted to a local hospital. The rescue work was in progress as rain hampered efforts.
'Student raped'
A matriculation student was sexually assaulted in Mustafaabad area. Police registered a case against suspect Rashid of Sialkot.
Police claimed the victim was friend of Rashid who took the girl to a desolated place, raped her and left her abandoned at Urdu Bazaar.
Police began raids to arrest the accused as the Punjab police chief also took notice of the incident.
